I was a German teacher at the University of Maryland in Stuttgart in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I used to take my students (mostly US soldiers) to Wimpfen im Tal when the Benedictines still lived there. The monks told a great story about how they came to the monastery with General George Patton’s help.
