In truth, I too think of home cooking as a hobby. It isn’t an occasional thing that gets picked up from time to time. In this household, it’s how we feed ourselves. There are relatively few highly processed foods used in our kitchen. But I see it as a hobby because I enjoy the alchemy of the kitchen and because it seems to be something that not everyone does as we do, mostly from scratch. It’s the idea it stands apart as a chosen activity that makes it a hobby. And that, I definitely agree, is a sad thought indeed.
